About Gusto At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve. All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) — because everyone who helps build Gusto should share in its success. Offer amounts are determined by role, level, and location. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy . AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto. We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process. About the Role: As a UX Researcher on the team, your work will directly inform the bets Gusto makes on future product investments. You will partner with senior leadership, including VPs and above, bringing clarity to ambiguous, high-stakes decisions and sharpening our understanding of the customers we serve. This role is the equivalent of a Senior Staff-level at other external companies. Success looks like: a clear-eyed view of where our AI experiences are working or falling short, and senior executives that trust your evidence to guide where Gusto invests next. About Design at Gusto: UX Research is part of the Design Organization at Gusto, which is made up of over 70 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We're a cross-functional bunch focused on Design, Research, Writing, Ops and Front-end Development who are always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for the people who use Gusto. We don't care a whole lot about swim lanes and we work closely with our partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build and ship experiences that make a difference. We are passionate advocates for thoughtful, crafted, and inclusive experiences and we believe great design can make hard things possible, even delightful. About the Research Team: We’re a small team of researchers embedded within product areas across R&D. Customer learning is highly valued at Gusto and we work to make sure we’re shining the light on customer understanding in the areas it’s needed the most so that critical decisions are backed by evidence. We’ve been experimenting and adopting AI in our research practice, continuing to find ways to use it to accelerate, scale, and raise the quality bar. We believe that builders across Gusto should be able to self-serve on straight-forward research questions and we build tools, resources, and programs to remove barriers to customer learning, whether that’s leveraging the research our team conducts or conducting their own. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day: Set and drive a quantitative research roadmap across R&D, prioritizing where evidence reduces risk on our biggest product bets. Develop psychometric frameworks, validated constructs and scales to measure how customers experience Gusto's AI features. Own Gusto's approach to quantitative methods, from evolving our org-wide survey strategy to knowing when to generalize qualitative findings at scale (e.g., MaxDiff, conjoint) and designing rigorous studies that reduce bias. Partner closely with Data Science to combine behavioral, attitudinal, and sentiment data into a coherent view of the customer, uncovering the story behind the metrics. Build and maintain clear segmentation of Gusto's ideal customer profiles, keeping it current as the business and product evolve. Build scaled usability measurement, including large-sample benchmarking and competitive comparisons, to give teams a high-confidence read on experience and break ties between design directions. Elevate Gusto's quantitative research practice: mentor other researchers, build shared tools and standards, and advance an AI-native way of working (Claude Code, Gumloop, etc.) that raises the floor across the org. Here’s what we're looking for: You have 8+ years of experience leading quantitative UX research, with a proven track record of influencing strategic product and business decisions at the executive level, and communicating complex findings clearly to senior stakeholders. You possess deep expertise in survey science, sampling, pricing research, and statistical modeling, including developing psychometric frameworks and validated measurement scales, along with experience with AI and LLM evaluation methods, logs analysis, and behavioral analysis. You are proficient in SQL and Python, and comfortable working hands-on with survey platforms such as Qualtrics. You have experience designing and running usability research at scale, from benchmarking studies to tie-breaking evaluations between design variants. You have a track record of setting research standards or practices that scale beyond your own projects, across multiple teams or an organization. You have extensive experience working on AI-powered products, and genuine curiosity about using AI tools to scale your own research process. You have experience enabling and coaching non-researchers to conduct their own research, and enjoy fostering a culture of learning. Our cash compensation range for this role is $172,000/yr to $215,000/yr in Denver, and $202,000/yr to $253,000/yr in San Francisco and New York. Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale. Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees. About Design at Gusto Design at Gusto is made up of over 80 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We're a cross-functional group that is always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for the people who use Gusto. We don't care much about swim lanes and though we care deeply about quality and craft, we are never precious about it. We work closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build, and ship experiences that make a real difference. We believe great design can make hard things possible, even delightful. We are building an AI-native design organization — and we mean that seriously. We're looking for designers who are already working this way: using AI to prototype ideas quickly, shorten customer feedback loops, and ship quality UX directly to customers. This isn't a future aspiration — it's how we work now, and it's changing what the design role looks like at Gusto and across the industry. About the Role This is a leadership role, empowering a team of Product Designers. And, as the first Design Leader for Gusto's Banking team, you'll lead design across two products at different stages of maturity: Wallet, a long-running, established product already helping workers manage their pay, and SMB Banking, a newer banking product for small businesses. You're bringing together an established Consumer Banking design practice with a newer Business Banking effort for the first time, building the shared rituals and practices that will connect them, while staying close enough to the craft to help both products grow. This is a player-coach role, for now — but as Banking grows, this role's balance of hands-on craft versus people leadership will shift over time. That's why we're looking for an experienced, hands-on manager: someone who's managed before and is comfortable working as player-coach, using craft to set the bar high for the team they're growing. About the Team Gusto already serves over 500,000 small businesses and pays millions of their employees every month. Wallet puts your team's design decisions in front of a meaningful share of those employees directly, and SMB Banking opens the door to the 6.2 million employers in the US (98% with fewer than 100 employees) and the 550,000 new businesses started every year. Because Gusto already runs payroll for hundreds of thousands of businesses, we can design banking that's connected to pay, cash flow, and hiring from day one. You'll help invent what that looks like. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day: Manage an initial team of 3 designers, and hire to build your team. Build the rituals, hiring pipeline, and planning cadence that span both Consumer Banking and Business Banking for the first time, formalizing what already exists on Wallet and building from zero for Business Banking. Coach designers working at two different stages at once: one optimizing and scaling something live (Wallet), and one defining something that doesn't exist yet (SMB Banking). Co-create goals and success metrics with product and engineering partners for the team, translating strategy into clear scopes, sequences, and milestones. Raise the bar on Wallet's existing quality standard through critique and review, while defining a new standard from scratch for Business Banking. Stay hands-on: review and sometimes do design work directly on the highest-stakes decisions, especially on SMB Banking's path to beta, while coaching your team toward greater independence over time. Partner as an equal in the EPD trio with Banking's PM and engineering leads on each side, and partner regularly with Risk, Compliance, Legal, Data, and Ops given both products are regulated financial products. Ensure Banking's products fit cohesively into Gusto's broader financial ecosystem, coordinating with design and product counterparts on adjacent pods (like Accounting and Payments) so the customer experience feels connected across surfaces rather than fragmented by internal team boundaries. Build individualized career development plans with each direct report, and adapt your leadership style to the person and the moment. Represent Banking's design needs (headcount, quality investment, tooling) to senior design leadership. Here’s what we're looking for: 10+ years of product design experience, including 4+ years of people management experience, ideally with senior designers or higher. You're an established manager who has worked as a player-coach before. Ideally you've managed designers across products at different stages, for example an established, metrics-driven product alongside a true 0-1 effort. Your portfolio and management track record show high-quality work in consumer or business financial products — fintech, banking, or financial platforms strongly preferred. Experience partnering with Risk, Compliance, or Legal on regulated financial products (KYC/KYB, identity verification, money movement rails, partner bank relationships) is a strong plus. You have experience incorporating AI tools and practices into how a whole design team works. Our cash compensation range for this role is $178,000/yr to $253,000/yr in San Francisco and New York, and $147,000/yr to $215,000/yr in Denver. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above. About the Role Gusto is looking for an AV Engineer to be the design authority for audiovisual technology across our entire physical footprint — and the technical director behind every event we put on. This is a senior individual contributor role with real ownership: you'll author the AV standard that every site and every integrator builds against, own the multi-site capital roadmap, and design and direct the productions our executives and customers see. You'll also serve as technical lead on our company-wide migration from Zoom to Google Meet, resetting a fleet of 200+ conference rooms in the process. If you've spent your career executing someone else's drawings and are ready to own the drawing, this is that role. About the Team As a member of the AV Engineering team, you'll sit within AIT Operations alongside the AIT Geeks, Inventory, Corporate Identity Engineering, Product AIT and Collaboration Tools. We're a small, high-trust team that owns the technology Gusties touch every day, and we're AI-forward — with a governed platform that gives engineers tools like Claude and Claude Code to automate the repetitive parts of the job. AV is the most visible surface we own: when a room works or an all-hands delivers, people notice. You'll be the senior-most AV technical voice in the company and the SME for our AV platforms, partnering closely with Workplace, Networking, Client Platform Engineering, Brand, and Executive Operations. Here's what you'll do day-to-day Own AV design and programming — design, testing, troubleshooting, implementation of AV technology in Gusto's offices, meeting spaces, and all hands event spaces across San Francisco, Denver, New York, Burlingame, and Scottsdale, with new sites in planning. Integrators move to install, labor, and specialist overflow rather than design lead. Author and maintain the Gusto AV standard — room tiers, signal flow, control systems, camera and lighting standards, and the event production baseline that every site and vendor builds against. Architect and own the technology and production for all of Gusto's high-profile events — company-wide meetings (remote and in person), our flagship multi-day customer event, fireside chats, onsites, and podcast productions. You set the production design, spec and build the technical package, direct the show, and own the failure modes. Lead the AV workstream of our Zoom to Google Meet migration — room interoperability, native Meet conversions, room hardware strategy, identity and policy mapping, and downstream integration dependencies. Own the multi-site AV capital roadmap and vendor relationships , including vendor and project management of office buildouts and upgrades, negotiating investment and tradeoffs across sites and holding integrators and manufacturers accountable to design intent. Administer our AV SaaS offerings — Google Meet and Zoom room fleets, Logitech and Neat endpoints, and streaming and event platforms — including room health monitoring, dashboards, and firmware lifecycle. Act as the escalation path for the IT Geeks Support team for meeting space technology and events, and stay current with AV technology to ensure Gusto's business needs are being met. Use AI to automate the work that shouldn't be manual — room health reporting, standards and runbook documentation, show-control logic, and vendor and RFP analysis. We expect you to build tooling, not just maintain spreadsheets. Coach the team. Enable our IT Geeks team and event technicians to own tier-one AV and day-of production, support in-house video production projects, and document your domains so neither is a single point of failure. Here's what we're looking for 8+ years of AV engineering experience , including time as the senior-most or design-owning AV resource for a multi-site organization. You've produced designs of record — room tiers, signal flow, rack elevations, control narratives — not just reviewed an integrator's drawings. Demonstrated technical direction of high-stakes live events. You've designed and called executive-fronted or external-facing shows end to end, including the failover plan for when something breaks mid-show. Deep hands-on control, audio, and video systems expertise: AV control system programming (QSC strongly preferred; experience with Crestron, Biamp, and Extron a bonus), video switching and production (Barco E2, Ross Ultrix, Blackmagic ATEM), audio routing over IP networks such as Dante, comfort on an audio board with at least 16 channels including microphone systems and the ability to tune a room, theatrical and architectural lighting systems and fixtures (ETC, Paradigm, Martin, Chroma Q), and DMX networking. Meeting-space and streaming platform depth: advanced knowledge of video collaboration offerings (Google Meet, Zoom Rooms, Neat, Logitech), meeting space technologies, acoustical design and lighting; video routing and signal flow across live event productions, digital signage networks, conference rooms, and virtual events; live streaming topology (P2P, AWS MediaLive and MediaConnect, encoding, Wirecast, vMix, OBS); PTZ and broadcast cameras with Sony Cinema Line familiarity; show programming (QLab, Stream Deck, Bitfocus Companion, OSC); post-production in DaVinci Resolve; and solid network architecture fundamentals as they apply to AV-over-IP. AI fluency as a working practice. You use AI tools daily and can build with them — scripting control logic, generating documentation and runbooks, pulling and analyzing platform data via APIs. Capital and vendor accountability. You've owned or materially driven an annual AV budget and a portfolio of integrator and manufacturer relationships, and you can articulate tradeoffs you personally negotiated. The attributes that make this role work: a technology enthusiast always excited to learn new apps, devices, and better ways to do things; a passion for automation and highly efficient workflows; outstanding people and communication skills with the ability to influence without positional authority; calm under live-show pressure and willing to own failure modes; you love solving problems and getting at the root of issues; upbeat and positive, motivated by making someone else's day smoother; super detail oriented and highly organized — it bothers you when things aren't lined up properly or documentation doesn't exist; incredibly reliable and you follow through on what you promise; and you proactively handle anticipated issues before they arise. This role is hands-on and San Francisco based, with travel to Gusto sites and event-hours flexibility. Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $185,000-208,000 for San Francisco. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Money Services and Banking — the operational home for Gusto Wallet, Cash Advance, and Gusto's expanding consumer financial products. This team is responsible for building the operational infrastructure that supports Gusto's growth in consumer banking — while protecting the customers who depend on it. You will lead this organization through a senior leadership team, who carry full ownership for their function's outcomes, not just execution within it.Partner deeply with Compliance, Legal, Engineering, and Product across Gusto's products, and serve as the operational owner of the functions that sit at the regulated edge of Gusto's financial platform This is a builder's role. Risk & Money Services is being stood up as a defined function within a new domain — you will set the SLAs, design the controls, build the metrics framework, establish the governance, and create the playbook that lets Gusto move money with confidence and scale. Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That's why we're committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Here's what you'll do Own Risk & Money Services end to end. Be the single accountable leader for fraud and payment risk decisioning, BSA/AML compliance, Reg E dispute operations, collections, and the operational backbone of Gusto's money products. Own the customer experience, the regulatory posture, and the financial outcomes across this entire function. Lead a multi-disciplinary regulated financial services organization through leaders who lead. Direct an organization spanning risk operations, dispute and fraud operations, and consumer money — through leaders who own their function end to end, whom you'll continue to develop, hire, and scale. Be the keeper of quality, speed, and regulatory integrity across all three practices. Stand up Risk & Money Services as a defined operational function. Define the governance, the metrics framework, the SLAs, and the reporting infrastructure for a function that is being formalized for the first time. Build the operating muscle — controls documentation, audit readiness, workforce management, and escalation frameworks — that makes this domain run with the reliability a regulated function requires. Own the highest-stakes real-time financial decisions in Gusto's customer operations. Be accountable for the decisions your team makes every day on whether payroll goes out when something looks wrong, whether a dispute warrants provisional credit, whether a fraud signal warrants action, and whether a fund recovery effort can be executed in time. These decisions carry material financial impact for customers and for Gusto — and they happen in real time. Own Gusto's Reg E compliance posture at the operational level. Lead the operational program that governs Gusto's Reg E dispute obligations — intake, investigation, provisional credit, resolution, and customer communication — in partnership with Compliance and Legal. Ensure the team's practices are auditable, scalable, and consistently defensible. Lead BSA/AML operational response. Own the customer-facing operational work triggered by BSA/AML alert activity — transaction monitoring response, customer outreach, account action — in partnership with Gusto's Compliance program. Ensure operational response meets the timeliness and documentation standards required by Gusto's sponsor bank relationships and regulatory obligations. Build Consumer Money for growth. Own the operational infrastructure for Gusto Wallet, Cash Advance, and Gusto's expanding consumer financial product suite. Build the SOPs, workforce model, controls, and SLAs that support consumer product growth while protecting the customers who depend on these products. Drive AI-native transformation in a regulated financial domain. Partner with Gusto's shared service platform and AI organization to bring AI agents, semantic knowledge, and automation capabilities into Risk & Money Services — accelerating fraud decisioning speed, dispute throughput, and risk signal accuracy while protecting the regulatory accountability this domain requires. Be the operational counterpart to Product, Engineering, and Risk partners. Operate as the direct customer experience and operational owner across Gusto's money and risk product organizations — translating the operational and regulatory reality of risk and money movement into product priorities, and translating product roadmap into operational and regulatory readiness. Represent Risk & Money Services externally. Be the direct voice with Gusto's sponsor bank partners, regulators, and auditors on matters affecting risk and money movement — not just the internal operator of the controls they require, but the leader they know and deal with directly. Build the playbook for new financial products. Establish Risk & Money Services as the operational home for the risk and money movement functions of Gusto's growing financial product portfolio — including business banking expansion, new money services, and future consumer financial products — with the controls and operational readiness already in place. Bring out the best in your people. Care deeply about the Gusties on your team. Help them do the best work of their careers, grow into bigger versions of themselves, and feel proud of building a risk and money function that protects Gusto's customers and the business at the same time. Here's what we're looking for 12+ years of industry experience leading financial services operations in banking, payments, money movement, fraud and risk, or related regulated domains — with demonstrated depth in the mechanics of how money moves, where it fails, and how regulated institutions respond. 7+ years as a departmental leader running large, multi-disciplinary financial services operations teams — with experience managing through senior direct reports across distinct operational functions. Deep expertise in banking and money movement operations — including Reg E dispute processing, BSA/AML operational response, ACH and real-time payments risk, sponsor bank operational requirements, and the controls infrastructure that makes regulated money movement auditable. Hands-on background in fraud and payment risk — experience building or leading fraud operations that make real-time decisioning calls with material financial consequences, including payment risk scoring, account takeover response, and fund recovery operations. Experience in consumer financial products — operational background in consumer banking, digital wallet, cash advance, or similar products, including the SOPs, customer communications frameworks, and compliance controls these products require. Track record of standing up or formalizing regulated financial functions — building the SLAs, controls documentation, governance, and reporting infrastructure that make regulated work auditable, scalable, and defensible under examination. Demonstrated experience navigating sponsor bank and regulatory relationships — understanding how to operate within the constraints of a bank partnership, including audit readiness, operational policy alignment, and escalation to compliance and legal. Track record of leading through high-stakes, real-time financial decisions where individual calls carry material financial cost to customers or to the business. Experience building reliable, scalable, AI-native operations in regulated domains — with the judgment to know where automation accelerates and where regulatory accountability stays non-negotiable. Strong cross-functional muscle with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, and Risk — particularly in fintech, banking, or financial product environments where operational leaders must drive product decisions, not just react to them. Track record of delivering on the diverse needs of multiple senior partners across overlapping financial product lines. Demonstrated ability to lead through significant organizational change — bringing teams along with clarity, candor, and consistency during periods of high operational flux. Empathetic and employee-focused: you care deeply about the people on your team, you help them achieve their personal and professional goals, and you enable them to do the best work of their lives. Track record of building diverse and inclusive teams. Our cash compensation range for this role is $170,000 to 215,000 per year in Denver. About the Role: This role blends technical problem-solving with sales and customer service. After training, you'll be helping small business owners get their payroll and HR set up correctly. This means entering their past information, catching mistakes in their setup before they cause problems, and helping them navigate state and federal tax guidelines (every state does this differently, so you'll become the expert who can guide customers through all 50). This team is where technical sales careers start at Gusto. You'll build a strong foundational understanding of payroll, tax, and compliance expertise while developing consultative sales skills, and that opens doors. Reps who excel here can grow into specialized roles working in Implementations and Solutions Engineering. If you're looking for a sales career with a technical backbone, this is where that path starts. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day: Customer conversations: Handle high-volume customer interactions across phone and email with small business owners guiding them from onboarding to running their first payroll. Pipeline management: Own your ticket queue the way a seller owns their opportunity pipeline. Grow revenue: Proactively position plan upgrades and surface cross-sell opportunities for Health Insurance, Workers' Comp, and 401(k). Technical diagnosis: Catch tax discrepancies live, troubleshoot unfamiliar state portals in real time, and make the right compliance call for each state, size, and industry combination. Compliance setup: Configure sick time, PTO, and overtime policies to keep companies compliant from day one Work across teams: You'll know when a customer's situation is something you can solve yourself versus when it needs a specialist, and you'll get that handoff started. You'll also work closely with our Risk team, asking customers for extra information when needed to build trust. AI-powered workflows: Use assigned AI tools daily as a core part of how you work, surfacing friction and inefficiencies and giving feedback that shapes what gets built next. Here’s what we're looking for: Experience: 1+ years in a high-volume sales or customer service role where you were cross-selling, upselling, or hitting a quota/KPIs. We love to hire new grads too, so if that’s you, please be prepared to translate how your internship or prior work experience would translate to this type of role. Eager to learn: You're excited to dive into a brand new industry and figure out the details, whether that's tax codes, compliance rules, or how payroll actually works behind the scenes. Customer obsessed: You put customer needs first, listening closely to understand what they would benefit from and help them understand how different parts of our product will affect their business. You build trust through consultative conversations, and that trust is what drives the right outcome for both the customer and the business. Drive: Goal-oriented and competitive in the best way, you want to hit your numbers and keep leveling up your sales game. Communication: Strong across phone, email, and chat, with the flexibility to adjust your tone to the moment. Adaptability: You're a problem solver who thrives on challenge and adjusting quickly when a situation shifts. AI: Proven, day-to-day experience integrating AI into how you work, across writing, research, prep, and summarization, with a track record of giving clear, useful feedback that helps improve your tools and processes. About the Opportunity Brand design is how Gusto earns trust, builds recognition and insight, and makes people feel something before they ever read a word. Our Brand is about how we show up in every moment and this team owns some of its most important attributes from how we use language to typography, from color and composition to illustration, motion. These aren't finishing touches. They're critical to how we show who we are and why we're different. Gusto is expanding our in-house creative studio inside a fast-moving, late-stage startup. We launch products, educate customers, run brand campaigns, and show up at events—and we do all of it with a consistent visual language and voice that needs to work across digital channels, motion formats, physical environments and everything in between. In the same week, you might be designing the visual system for a product launch and art directing an illustration library that will scale across the entire brand. We're looking for a Brand & Motion Designer who is a hands-on maker: someone who loves the craft of visual design and motion, takes real ownership of creative output, and wants to help define how Gusto looks, feels, and moves across our brand. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on brand craft, motion design systems, and the variety of deeply considered visual work that makes a B2B brand feel genuinely human. In this role, you'll own creative work from early concept through final delivery. You'll make judgment calls about typography, composition, color, and motion, and increasingly, that judgment extends to the AI-assisted work happening around you. You'll know when a generated output is right for the brand and when it isn't, and you'll be able to say why. You'll help introduce motion as a foundational part of how we build brand as someone who thinks in motion and ensures it's part of the creative process from the start. AI is part of how this team works. We use it to advance faster, explore more territory, and reduce the distance between a concept and something real. What we're looking for isn't just someone who uses these tools but someone who can direct them. Someone who sets the creative standard for what AI output is and isn't acceptable for the Gusto brand, and who helps us build the guardrails and workflows that let the whole team produce at a higher level. If you're energized by being close to the work, care deeply about craft & preference, and enjoy improving both the output and the process, this role will be a impressive fit. Here's what you'll do day-to-day Design and execute visual and motion work across product launches, product education, brand campaigns, events, and digital channels Design and evolve brand systems, including motion guidelines, templates, and guardrails, that help the broader organization produce on-brand work consistently Integrate motion into the brand design process, establishing principles and patterns for animation that extend our visual identity into dynamic and digital formats Direct and evaluate AI-generated creative work, setting the standard for what's on-brand, what needs to be pushed further, and what shouldn't ship Use AI tools to compress the distance between concept and execution, exploring more territory, iterating faster, and raising the quality bar on every deliverable Partner closely with other creatives and cross-functional partners across marketing, product, and growth from early concept through final delivery Build repeatable templates and workflows that enable faster turnaround without sacrificing quality Maintain brand integrity across a wide range of deliverables — including work where AI tools played a role in production — ensuring everything feels cohesive, human, and unmistakably Gusto Here's what we're looking for 6+ years of experience in brand design, visual design and motion for in-house studios, agencies, or content teams A portfolio that demonstrates robust design skills and creative thinking is required. It should include brand identity, product marketing, campaigns, and digital content. Please provide examples that explain how AI was part of your work and the decisions you made. Robust design instincts across typography, color, composition, and motion direction—you know what makes work feel distinctive versus generic Expert proficiency in motion design principles and tools—Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud and motion tools like Calvary, Rive and Lottie A demonstrated point of view on AI in creative work — how to direct it, when to override it, and what it means to maintain a high creative standard when AI tools are part of the process Comfort migrating between big, brand-defining work and fast-turn executional needs Proficient collaboration skills across creative, production, marketing, and product partners A maker mindset—you enjoy improving how work gets made, not just making the work itself Experience developing or contributing to creative standards for AI-assisted production — guardrails, evaluation criteria, or workflows that help a team produce at a higher level with these tools. About the Team: Money Movement (MM) is a core Payments Engineering team responsible for actually moving money at Gusto — reliably, on time, and at scale. The team owns Gusto’s payment rails and the integrations behind them: ACH, wires, real-time payments, checks, and international and stablecoin rails through partners. MM owns the connections to partner banks and payment providers, the APIs that initiate credits and debits, the ingestion of incoming bank data, and the routing logic that selects the most efficient rail for each payment based on speed, cost, geography, currency, and regulatory requirements. The team also builds the operational tooling that Payment Operations depends on to stop, reverse, verify, and investigate payments. MM sits within the Payments org alongside the Financial Data and Payment Profile team. Where that team owns the source of truth for payment data and the customer-facing payment method experience, MM owns execution — the systems that hand money to a bank or partner and track it to settlement. The team operates tier-1 systems with clear reliability ownership, on-call responsibility, and defined SLOs measured across every rail, and is in the middle of extracting money movement out of the monolith into a standalone Payments Service with a rails-factory architecture and stable API contracts for upstream product teams. As an Engineering Manager on the Money Movement team, you’ll directly empower a team of engineers, supporting them in their continued growth and success. You’ll collaborate with a talented cross-functional team of Product, Design, and Data partners, along with Payment Operations, Accounting, and Treasury, focusing on payments infrastructure that customers can trust with their payroll. Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day: Develop the engineering team across the Money Movement domain to help build the long term vision of the payments team at Gusto. The leader will expand Gusto’s payment rails across the US and internationally while ensuring that our 500K+ businesses and millions of their employees are getting paid on time, every time. Lead, empower and coach a team across engineering for payments to i) drive technical guidance and consistent execution of the next generation of payment rails and money movement capabilities that enable Gusto to expand its product offerings; ii) recruit, hire, and onboard new engineering team members; iii) identify and address any roadblocks or challenges faced by the team; and iv) deliver scaled engineering solutions on time. Own reliable, efficient, compliant and cost effective end-to-end money movement across every rail — including on-call ownership, SLOs, and error budgets for tier-1 payment systems — and work cross-functionally with Payment Operations, Accounting and Treasury to de-risk any payments related issues with bank and provider partners. Drive the modularization of payments: lead the extraction of money movement into a standalone service with clean API contracts, so new rails can be added once at the platform layer instead of being re-integrated by every product team. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the team. In addition, collaborate and communicate with senior management and stakeholders to develop and execute long-term strategies for Gusto’s engineering department Develop and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including product, design, data science, and the upstream product teams that depend on payments, to make tradeoffs that build customer trust Here’s what we're looking for: 8+ years of relevant hands-on programming experience 3+ years of engineering management experience Experience managing a Payments platform team Comfortable guiding the team strategically as well as contributing hands on where it’s needed to support the team. Expect to be reviewing code, and coding where it’s needed to move the team along. Experience with growing and managing talent with varied experience level Comfortable navigating a complex and ambiguous problem space, and asking for help and clarification when needed Willingness to debate and commit Experience in shipping a cross-functional projects and driving business growth A desire to grow and learn on the job Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline; higher education preferred Stays informed about AI capabilities relevant to engineering teams and thoughtfully incorporates them into workflows, tooling, and decision-making. highly available, horizontally scalable systems, and continuing to reduce blast radius and improve the resilience of the databases we already operate. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process. About the role We're looking for an experienced, customer-obsessed, AI-fluent product marketer to help bring new products, offers, and motions to market — and to find product-market fit through a growth-oriented test-and-learn approach. This role sits on a newly formed Experimentation team, built specifically for the work that doesn't yet have a settled audience or a clear owner as Gusto quickly evolves our product offerings and the complexity of work we can manage on behalf of small businesses. You'll shape positioning before it's proven, test demand, learn fast, and iterate on what works. You're comfortable building into a system rather than relying on one that already exists — this is earlier-stage but highly strategic work, where the path isn't repeatable yet. Once an audience, product, and GTM motion are proven, the work hands off to the existing product marketing pods — this team's job is to prove it first. We’re looking for someone who thrives in both strategy and execution: equally comfortable identifying market opportunities, shaping cross-product narratives, and rolling up their sleeves to turn strategy into action. This role will work deeply with leaders across Product, Sales, Growth, and Marketing to align strategies and drive measurable results. If this sounds like you, and you’re passionate about helping small businesses succeed, we’d love to meet you. What You’ll Do Architect & Execute GTM Strategy Lead go-to-market strategy and execution across product areas—partnering with Growth, Product and Marketing to shape customer segmentation, pricing, and GTM motions that drive adoption and growth. Turn Insights Into Action Synthesize market research, customer insights, usage data, and cross-functional input to identify opportunities and inform strategy. Translate strategy into actionable plans and ensure GTM execution lands with excellence. Contribute to a culture of excellence Create clarity and focus in every project you take on, raise the bar on craft, and foster a culture of insight-driven thinking, collaboration, and results. Drive Cross-Functional Alignment & Accountability Act as the strategic tissue across Product, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience to drive shared goals and orchestrate execution across teams, leveraging technology. Bring structure, momentum, and accountability to complex initiatives. Build new ways of working by building net-new processes/systems that didn’t exist prior. Own Performance & Optimization Define success metrics and track performance across initiatives. Drive regular reviews of GTM performance and lead iteration to improve outcomes over time. Here’s what we're looking for: Track record of shaping GTM strategy in ambiguous yet highly ambitious environments — 0-to-1 products, new markets, or building new motions within an existing company Ability to move between strategic planning and hands-on execution—comfortable with ambiguity and bias toward action Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills; adept at influencing across Sales, Product, and Marketing Deep experience with customer segmentation, positioning, pricing, and GTM planning Experience in SMB, fintech, HR/benefits/payroll tech, or a complex multi-audience business is a plus Highly AI fluent; able to build AI systems and unlock new ways of working through AI Compensation Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $190,000 - $235,000/yr in Denver & Phoenix/Scottsdale, and $220,000 - $275,000/yr for San Francisco & New York.
