We are looking for a proactive Carrier Sales Representative to support our growing drayage operation. This position is responsible for sourcing, developing, and maintaining relationships with drayage motor carriers throughout the United States while securing competitive capacity for customer shipments. The Drayage Carrier Sales Representative plays a critical role throughout the shipment lifecycle - from quoting and carrier selection through dispatch, scheduling, execution, accessorial management, and final carrier charge verification. Responsibilities: Source and develop reliable drayage carriers across major U.S. port and rail markets. Build and maintain strong carrier relationships with dispatchers, owners, and carrier representatives. Identify carrier capacity by proactively contacting carriers about equipment availability, lane preferences, and market conditions. Request and negotiate rates for drayage shipments, including linehaul and accessorial charges, while protecting company margins. Evaluate and select carriers based on pricing, availability, equipment, reliability, and service history. Secure capacity and cover loads after customer approval, ensuring carriers can meet required pickup and delivery dates. Coordinate pickup and delivery schedules, including container pulls, appointments, container availability, and Last Free Day (LFD) requirements. Monitor shipment execution and resolve issues, including carrier delays, appointment problems, equipment shortages, and container availability. Manage accessorial charges, such as detention, storage, chassis, waiting time, redelivery, and demurrage-related costs, ensuring proper approval and documentation. Complete shipment closeout, including verifying final carrier charges, collecting required documentation, updating TAI, and ensuring accurate records. Requirements We're looking for someone who has: 2+ years of experience in freight brokerage, transportation, logistics, or carrier sales, with prior drayage/intermodal, port, or rail experience. Strong knowledge of U.S. ports and rail ramps, import/export container movements, container types, chassis requirements, overweight shipments, and drayage accessorials. Proven experience negotiating carrier rates, securing truck capacity, and working with TMS platforms. Ability to manage multiple shipments, quotes, carriers, and deadlines simultaneously. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure. Ability to communicate effectively across Carrier Sales, Track & Trace, Customer Facing, Accounting, and leadership teams. Position Overview : The Operations Representative is responsible for managing day-to-day shipment execution and serving as the frontline point of contact for clients’ brokerage customers. This role ensures freight moves seamlessly by coordinating with carriers, internal teams, and clients to resolve service issues, provide proactive communication, and maintain accurate shipment records. The Operations Representative balances operational efficiency with customer service excellence, playing a vital role in ensuring client satisfaction and long-term account success. This role performs routine assignments while expanding conceptual knowledge, developing skills sets and expertise for the next level. Key Responsibilities Shipment Execution & Monitoring • Manage daily execution of customer shipments including rating, routing, booking, and tendering. • Track and trace shipments, updating milestones in the TMS to ensure visibility for internal teams and clients. • Ensure all shipment documentation (BOL, POD, accessorials) is accurate and uploaded on time. • Escalate uncovered or at-risk loads to Carrier Sales within 12 hours of pickup. Customer Communication & Service • Serve as the primary point of contact for shipment-level updates, providing timely and accurate information. • Proactively notify customers of delays, exceptions, and resolution plans. • Respond quickly to client inquiries and requests, ensuring a customer-first experience. • Support Account Managers in executing customer SOPs and meeting service-level agreements. Issue Resolution & Escalation • Coordinate load recovery in the event of a fall-off, delay, or service failure. • Escalate service incidents within 15 minutes of identification and provide ongoing status updates until resolved. • Partner with internal teams to ensure corrective action plans are executed. Accuracy, Compliance & Reporting • Maintain accurate shipment records in the TMS, ensuring data integrity and timely updates. • Validate rating, contracts, and routing guides for compliance with customer requirements. • Provide reporting and shipment summaries to customers or internal stakeholders as requested. • Support claims and billing discrepancy resolution within defined SLAs.
