About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Automation team within the Platform group. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for architecting and developing Agentic AI systems that revolutionize how Coinbase operates across various domains, including compliance automation and customer support. Your expertise will guide the technical direction of production AI systems, working closely with cross-functional teams to implement scalable, reliable, and intelligent automation solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact the future of AI-driven financial services by designing foundational APIs, orchestration frameworks, and measurement systems that ensure high-quality, dependable, and customer-centric AI applications. Qualifications 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of designing and deploying distributed systems.Extensive experience working with large language models (LLMs) and AI/ML applications, particularly in grounding, hallucination reduction, and reliability guardrails.Deep expertise in API design, orchestration layers, and evaluation frameworks for agentic AI systems at scale.Strong understanding of building reusable primitives and scalable automation solutions across multiple domains.Proficiency in leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, and establishing best practices for production AI systems.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields. Responsibilities Architect and develop Agentic AI systems that support Coinbase's compliance automation and operational needs, including intelligent agents, orchestration frameworks, and guardrails.Design and implement foundational APIs and measurement frameworks to ensure AI agents are relevant, grounded, and deliver consistent customer satisfaction with minimal hallucinations.Lead the technical strategy for distributed systems underpinning AI automation, defining architecture patterns and strategic roadmaps in collaboration with engineering leadership.Create reusable primitives and orchestration solutions that enable AI-powered automation to scale efficiently across multiple business domains.Mentor and guide engineering teams on AI system design, coding standards, and production-readiness practices, especially for large language model applications.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into scalable, reliable AI solutions that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.
