About The Role The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced or senior BackEnd Software Engineer to join our Model-Based Engineering (MBE) software team based in Berkeley, Missouri. This role is pivotal in supporting Boeing Defense Services (BDS) and involves leading the development of innovative backend solutions that drive our web applications and services. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing APIs, developing data processing pipelines, optimizing database queries, and establishing scalable production infrastructure. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on prototypes, transition minimum viable products into production, and influence system architecture at a high level. As a key member of the team, you will research emerging technologies, evaluate their applicability, and implement solutions that enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability. The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, collaborating across teams, and contributing to architectural discussions that shape the future of Boeing’s software systems. The position provides a pathway towards full-stack development, with potential opportunities to expand into frontend development and broader system responsibilities. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, data science, or related fields, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in backend software development. An active U.S. Secret Security Clearance and the ability to obtain Special Program Access are required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Spring, Go, Python, or similar, and have extensive experience working with SQL or PL/SQL databases like Oracle SQL and SQL Server. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern architectural styles such as microservices, event-driven architecture, and client-server models is essential. Preferred qualifications include over nine years of related experience, experience with cloud platforms like AWS, containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks like NodeJS and ReactJS. Additional expertise in concurrency programming, distributed systems, and familiarity with messaging systems like Kafka, Redis, or RabbitMQ will be advantageous. Security clearance at the Top Secret level is highly desirable for this role.
